The great country singer Kacey Musgraves released one of 2015’s best records with Pageant Material. The album also picked up a few nominations here and there, including a nod for Album of the Year at the CMAs, where she lost to Chris Stapleton’sThe Traveller, and for Best Country Album at the Grammys, where she will probably lose to Chris Stapleton’sThe Traveller. Next time, Kacey.
You know who else released an album this year? Coldplay. The British soft rockers put out one of 2015’s top nap records and perhaps the band’s last album ever in Adventure Of A Lifetime. While Coldplay’s latest effort is nothing to write home about, or really nothing to write about at all, we can still listen to Coldplay’s old songs, like their early hit “Yellow,” and Kacey Musgraves’ heartbreaking acoustic cover of it.
Last month, Musgraves was invited to appear at the Royal Variety Performance. The Royal Variety Performance is apparently a charity gala, but beyond that, it is a variety show where an endless parade of musicians and comedians entertain the royal family and other wealthy members of society. How Musgraves’ blue collar country music fits into a royal playlist is a mystery. But instead of performing something like “Dime Store Cowgirl,” Musgraves unleashed her cover of “Yellow,” and her delicate acoustic handling of the song was fit for any high-class gala. Watch it above (via Spin).
Kacey Musgraves is going on tour next month. Check out the full list of dates here.
