Ever since Prince’s death a couple of weeks ago, countless news stories have surged out from the media that have detailed his last days, his alleged vices, and his estate, threatening to overshadow Prince’s main contribution to this world: His awesome catalogue of music. Prince’s output touched millions of fans, not to mention those who live in his home state of Minnesota. And Prince also inspired fellow music giants, like Paul McCartney.
Last night, Sir Paul kicked off a two-night stand at Minneapolis’ Target Center as part of his One on One national tour. According to the Star Tribune, yesterday’s show was Paul’s seventh appearance in the Twin Cities, but it may be one of his most memorable as McCartney covered Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy,” adding the song to the end of Wings’ “Hi Hi Hi.” McCartney’s cover of the Purple One’s classic wasn’t the full version, the singer opting to deliver only a small sample of the song. But it was undoubtedly a moment of musical catharsis for a city whose musical scene has been altered forever. Watch it below.
