“The X Factor UK” starts filming next month and it looks like at least one fan favorite judge is locked in to return. Per The Sun, Nicole Scherzinger, who mentored reigning champ Matt Terry to a win last season, is gearing up to reclaim her seat on the judging panel.
A source for The Sun dished, “Nicole is so highly thought off by ‘X Factor’ that there was always the intention to tie her down for another year. Once she heard other names being mentioned, she was keen to get her deal locked down and it’s now there to sign.”
The “other names” being referenced for judging panel consideration is pop superstar Mariah Carey, who was reportedly approached to join the show for the upcoming season. Simon Cowell will be pulling double duty as he’s also judging the upcoming season of “America’s Got Talent” with Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.
Last season saw a return of “The X Factor UK’s” original fab-four judging panel with Cowell, Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne. Carey could still be in the running to join the series if Sharon Osbourne or Louis Walsh decided not to return.
Season 14 auditions kicked off in Manchester, England on May 14 and will also take place in Scotland on June 3 and June 4 in Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively. It’s going to be interesting to see if any of “The X Factor’s” famous former contenders return for a live performance this season. Namely, Harry Styles, who just dropped his highly-successful first self-titled solo album. “The X Factor UK” launched his music career back in 2011 with his third-place finish as part of One Direction. Styles will embark on a sold-out world tour to support the album this fall.
“The X Factor UK” airs in the U.S. on AXS TV. Stay tuned to AXS for “X Factor UK” coverage and updates.
