"Waves" is the debut solo single by Normani that she released with 6lack last November. It's one of her collaborations following songs with Calvin Harris and Sam Smith. Normani wrote "Waves" with 6lack while production duties were handled by Jonah Christian and frequent Ariana Grande collaborator Tayla Parx. Sleek synths dripping with trap beats back Normani as she finds herself entangled in a tumultuous relationship. "F**king hate you then I love you / I can't help myself," Normani sings. 6lack reiterates those mood swings, adding, "I'm ecstatic then I'm sad / On a high then I crashed." Normani and 6lack wade through their issues on this sexy and scintillating R&B romp.
In the music video for "Waves," Normani takes it to outer space. Zero gravity doesn't affect her dance moves as she puts it down on one of the planets. 6lack later appears and the two get cozy in front of the moon. It's an out-of-this-world romance in the galactic clip. Their single is now available on iTunes and Apple Music. Normani will open for Grande on her upcoming Sweetener Tour. Normani's debut album is due out later this year.
