A day following the first lineup announcement from one of the many major music festivals to take place in North America next year, Florida’s Okeechobee Festival revealed their own pop-heavy poster on Tuesday. Returning for its third year at the Sunshine Grove in Okeechobee, Fla., the multi-day music event’s 2018 lineup is highlighted with names of Arcade Fire, Halsey, Travis Scott and Bassnectar, who is scheduled to deliver a pair of performances.
Okeechobee's headliners may be impressive, but like any solid music festival, it is the undercard and diversity in the smaller fonts on the poster which really justify the cost of admission. Artists including 2017 breakout pop singer Khalid, Leon Bridges, Thievery Corporation, Big Gigantic, Gramatik and synth-pop duo Sylvan Esso also find themselves on this year’s lineup. It’s worth noting that the list of names even gets more impressive the further down you go. Well-known funk/jam bands including Lettuce, Twiddle and Turkuaz will all be making an appearance, in addition to some flavorful psychedelia coming from Chicano Batman, The Flaming Lips and Allah-Las.
The excitement that comes as a result of early lineup announcements before the end of the calendar year is understandable for a few reasons. Anyone who attends festivals on a yearly basis knows what a weekend full of fun and music can do for one’s spirit. It's also a lot easier to daydream about being out in the sun all day as the temperatures start to dip with the onset of winter. The first few major lineup announcements are also an effective way of predicting which artists may be touring and making a point to hit the festival circuit next year.
