A ton of musicians famous on both the U.S. and U.K. fronts premiered a music video for their cover of the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" on Oct. 7. The eclectic bunch includes One Direction, Kylie Minogue and Lorde to the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Coldplay's Chris Martin and the original Beach Boy himself, Brian Wilson, among many more.
To coincide with the launch of BBC Music, the U.K. broadcaster released the music video for "God Only Knows." Aside from the aforementioned names, more singers wrangled up for the cover include Pharrell Williams, Florence Welch, Stevie Wonder, Emeli Sandé, Jake Bugg, Sam Smith and much more in blink-and-you'll-miss-them cameos.
The music video for "God Only Know" opens with an orchestra warming up before playing the Beach Boys' beloved tune. Every artist in the cover has their second of screen time as they sing their line of the track. Since the classy clip takes place in an opera house, everyone is dressed to impress, though, in supernatural conditions (like Minogue singing while afloat in bubble). BBC Music made sure to capture the whimsical quality behind "God Only Know" in its star-packed video.
"All of the artists did such a beautiful job," Wilson told BBC about this latest cover. "I can’t thank them enough. I’m just honoured that 'God Only Knows' was chosen. [It's] a very special song. An extremely spiritual song and one of the best I’ve ever written."
The BBC Music version of "God Only Knows" is now available as a download and on CD in the U.K. Proceeds from the single will go toward BBC's Children in Need charity.
