P!nk recently released her new single "What About Us" and will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards which air Aug. 27. A superfan thought they could throw shade at P!nk referencing her part in the 2001 remake of "Lady Marmalade" as inferior to Christina Aguilera's part.
"Let's celebrate Pink's Vanguard Award with the only relevant video of her career, starring as Xtina backup singer (sic)," the superfan account BICONIC tweeted.
P!nk, however, wasn't about to be bullied and fired back many shots putting the beef to rest. The now seven-time VMA winner replied elegantly about a trend that she's noticed over the past decade and how people are pitted against each other.
"Want to point out an awful new phenomenon of the last 10 years. We can no longer be happy for each other. I [heart] Xtina, we've made amends...(sic)," the songwriter quipped. P!nk was far from done with the fan account, saying, "Music brings us all together. The best part of music is- there's room for everyone to win at the same time. Don't be what's wrong w/da world." "Let's be an example of inclusion and celebration. You don't have to like me at all, I'm ok with that. Just be a decent person," she continued on the tweet run.
P!nk still wasn't done. Defending her history of thought-out, artistic videos, she made one last remark to the bitter comment. "And you're f***in rip van winkle if you've never seen one of my videos (sic)," making one last slam at the Aguilera fan.
Twitter user "la bella vita" caught eye of the tweets and also tried to mock P!nk by saying, "You had her fuming." Being the quick witted firecracker she is, P!nk quickly shut down that hater too. "The last time I was fuming was when I turned on the news. Don't give yourself too much credit. I just like to set sh*t straight," she tweeted in reply.
Rumors swirled that P!nk and Aguilera quarreled over which parts of "Lady Marmalade" each would sing. P!nk revealed during a 2009 episode of VH1's "Behind the Music" where the beef came from and how it played out. She was upset when a label executive announced that Aguilera would be singing a particular verse during a meeting when each part was announced.
"Ron Fair walked in. He didn’t say hi to any of us and said, 'What’s the high part? What’s the most singing part? Christina’s going to take that part,” she remembered. "I stood up, and I said ‘Hi. How are you? So nice of you to introduce yourself. I’m P!nk. She will not be taking that part. I think that’s what the f**ing meeting’s about,'" P!nk recalled. "I just became the a**hole. And it was a role that I figured that I was gonna play a lot in this industry," she said during the episode.
P!nk and Aguilera made amends and in 2016, P!nk became an advisor on NBC's "The Voice" where Aguilera was a coach at the time. "Her and I have had history and it hasn't always been wonderful. I think it just took 15 years and I feel like there was true love and it felt really good, " she told Entertainment Weekly.
Now in their later 30s, both artists have moved on with their lives and don't hold a grudge. P!nk will release her seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma on Oct. 13 and Aguilera revealed earlier in 2017 that she too is working on new music.
