P!nk released her seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma in October 2017 and her more laid back vibe on the record has agreed with Adult radio. Lead single “What About Us?” still has strong airplay on AC stations nine months after its release, peaking at No. 1 on Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40 (Adult Pop Songs) while reaching No. 10 on Mainstream Top 40 (Pop Songs). Follow-up single “Beautiful Trauma” also has steady airplay hitting the No. 4 position on Adult Top 40 and No. 15 on AC. Now, she has released "Whatever You Want," the third single from the album, to adult radio impacting this past June 4.
“Whatever You Want” is lathered in acoustics and is typical P!nk - fighting for love in a mid-tempo classic sound all her own. The song represents a love that is struggling to stay afloat and P!nk is willing to give it her all to save what’s left. “You know we must believe or fall apart/ I feel like our ship’s going down tonight/ But it’s always darkest before the light/ And that’s enough for me to try/ Whatever you want/ Whatever you need,” she sings in the chorus. There’s still a glimmer of hope when she proclaims, “Even if I say that it’s over now/ Even if we want to move on somehow/ And just like that we come alive.”
There is already a music video for “Whatever You Want” which was released earlier in 2018 that uses clips getting ready for her big Beautiful Trauma World Tour that now spans into 2019 (for tickets, please click here), clips from her National Anthem performance at the Super Bowl as well as the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards where she received the Vanguard Award.
“Whatever You Want” has already begun charting on the Adult Top 40, ranking at No. 34. Radio airplay is tracked Monday through Sunday (versus sales and streaming that is tracked Friday through Thursday) and stations typically begin playing singles before its impact date. This is good news for the brand new single, giving it a head start on climbing the charts. To date, P!nk has 24 entries on the tally - 15 being top 10 hits and 9 of those reaching No. 1.
Over the years, Adult Contemporary music has created sub-genre categories. Hot AC where the single is being serviced plays a variety of classics as well as contemporary mainstream songs. This format usually includes a variety of styles by Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, soft rock classics such as The Eagles, Duran Duran, and the likes.
