Paul McCartney is giving fans an early Christmas present. McCartney has announced via his website that he's reissuing his Wings albums in a brand new box set called Wings 1971-73. The collection will be available starting Dec. 7, but fans can pre-order it now here.
McCartney had already confirmed that the first two Wings records, Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, would be getting re-releases. But according to Pitchfork, now fans will have the option to get both of those in one bundle with Wings 1971-73. The newly announced collection also includes the live album Wings Over Europe, which includes 20 previously unreleased live tracks from the band's 1972 European tour. That's not being made available separately; fans who want that record will have to get the package deal.
Yet for Wings fans or McCartney completists, there's plenty of reason to add these to the holiday wish list. The box set includes a fresh four-disc deluxe edition of Wild Life, plus the new six-disc edition of Red Rose Speedway, and Wings Over Europe. The tracklists on McCartney's website show that includes more than 60 new tracks, ranging from B-sides to original edits and home recordings. The albums are limited edition and numbered, and all come with accompanying books and other bonus material that give fans insight into the making of each record.
It's a busy season for McCartney, who released his current album Egypt Station in September and saw it debut at number one on the Billboard 200. That made it his first solo album to hit the top spot since 1982. He's made numerous appearances to promote the record in the last two months; you can watch him perform his current single "Come On To Me" live on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" by playing the video above. Plus, next month The Beatles' White Album is getting an anniversary reissue of its own.
He's currently in the middle of the album's corresponding tour. The Freshen Up Tour began on Sept. 17 and is taking McCartney around the world. In December, he'll return to the United Kingdom for a handful of shows, before finishing out his tour in the United States in May. Tickets to several of his remaining concerts are on sale now through AXS.
