Milwaukee World Festivals announced that singer/songwriter Paul Simon will headline on July 30, 2017 at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater during Summerfest 50 in Milwaukee, Wisc. Paul Simon, one of the most influential musical artists of the era, will headline along with special guest Brandi Carlile. The announcement, made on April 25, 2017, revealed the final act on the American Family Amphitheater stage for the summer festival.
Paul Simon is credited with shaping the acoustic music and was named one of "100 People Who Shaped the World" by TIME Magazine in 2006. As one of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, he won four Grammy Awards for the song "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" and the album of the same name in 1968, according to information on the Paul Simon official website. As a solo artist, Simon won the Grammy for the song and album "Still Crazy After All These Years" in 1975 and the album Graceland in 1987. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of Simon & Garfunkel in 1990 and as a solo artist in 2001. He was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2002 and the first recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in 2007.
Paul Simon's performance at the American Family Amphitheater, like all performance at the venue, requires a special ticket purchase. Tickets will include general admission to Summerfest 50. Tickets will go on sale on April 28, 2017 and will be available at the Summerfest Box Office or through Ticketmaster. A special pre-sale will run on April 27, with the special code word STRANGER, while supplies last.
This is a banner year for Summerfest because it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the popular music festival, which will be held on the lakefront of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisc. The festival will feature music and entertainment on 11 stages for 11 days. The event will run June 28-July 2 and July 9, 2017 (closed on July 3).
