The PGA Tour is coming to Detroit in 2019, and golf fans can get tickets to the Rocket Mortgage Classic here at AXS. Don't miss your chance to see the first PGA Tour event to be held in Detroit when tickets go on sale next Thursday, Dec. 13.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic will be a historical event on the PGA Tour schedule. It replaces The National, which was played in the Washington, D.C. area from 2007 to 2008 (and itself replaced The International when the Denver-based tournament couldn't find a sponsor). But it will also be the first PGA Tour event held at Detroit Golf Club; the only other major tournament it hosted was the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, and that was 26 years ago in 1992.
While the course may not have much golf history, the state of Michigan certainly does. From 1958 to 2007, the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan was the primary site of the Buick Open, and that course also hosted the Ally Challenge as part of the PGA Champions Tour this year. Flint Golf Club in Flint, Michigan has its own spot in the golf record books, having hosted the Michigan PGA Professional Championship in 2017. Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Township, Michigan has hosted a dozen majors over its lifetime.
The inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic will take place from June 27-June 30 at Detroit Golf Club, whose two courses were arranged by legendary designer Donald Ross. Ross was called "one of the sport's greatest architects" by Golf Digest. Ross designed numerous other notable layouts including the Pinehurst No. 2 course in Pinehurst, North Carolina and the South Course at the aforementioned Oakland Hills.
That means when this PGA Tour event kicks off in June, it will be played on a course created by one of the most notable designers in the sport. It will be making history in bringing professional golf to Detroit Golf Club, and adding history to Michigan's golf accomplishments. That's before factoring in that this event will be competitive, with a selection of the best golfers in the country coming to battle for the first Rocket Mortgage Classic title. There are so many reasons to attend this tournament, so don't hesitate; get to know the course by playing the video above and then get your tickets through AXS.
Tickets for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club go on sale Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. local time through the AXS event page. Ticket prices have yet to be announced. For more about the PGA Tour, visit their website.
