Gary Clark Jr cleared the clouds Wednesday night at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado with his electrified infused blues guitar riffs. In spite of the wind and rain, Clark delivered a set that was both thrilling and almost hypnotic in its power. His rain-drenched, poncho wrapped fans were transfixed by the complexity and richness of his virtuoso blues inspired performance. Opening act Valerie June got the evening moving with an inspired and unique set that was the perfect warm-up for the chilly Colorado night and the eclectic power of Gary Clark Jr’s headlining performance.
Clark's music is an amalgam of so many things, all of them good. From hip-hop, rock, soul and the blues, he channels everyone from Robert Johnson, Hendrix, and Prince, to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Dr. Dre. It’s hard to label what he does. His music is like America itself, a fresh mix of history, art, culture, and diversity. His guitar work is instinctive and dazzling. On stage, he is a unique mix of energy, humility, and soul.
Wednesday night’s performance was remarkable, the wind and rain were no match for the musical storm Gary Clark Jr. and his band brought to the stage. Don't forget to check out the photo gallery above for a glimpse into the remarkable world of Gary Clark Jr and his tour mates.
