If you're trying to make sense of today's politics, you need to go see Pod Tours America. What began as a podcast started by Barack Obama's speechwriters and staffers has turned into a traveling roadshow, which will take co-hosts Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Tommy Vietor and Dan Pfeiffer on a 2018 speaking engagement tour of North America in early 2018.
The gang's project began during the 2016 presidential election as the podcast "Keepin It 1600." Unabashedly left-leaning, the show was dedicated to documenting the primaries, bringing down candidate Donald Trump and furthering the cause of Hillary Clinton.
In the aftermath of Trump's victory, Lovett launched the Crooked Media company with his fellow podcasting cohorts and launched "Pod Save America." Lovett famously remarked in a New York Times interview, “With Donald Trump winning the presidency, we have decided — we’ve realized — that democracy is not just a job for politicians.”
Their most recent episode, "Legislative Looting," also currently their most popular on iTunes, sheds light on the recent passing of the Tax Bill. Insightful and easy to digest, it should be regular listening for layfolk from both sides of the aisles.
Taking the fight to the airwaves and now major cities across the country, the guys have been hailed as "voices of the resistance." Pod Save America hit 1 million listeners early (by its fourth installment), and is currently one of the highest-ranking shows on iTunes. Obama himself was a guest, giving them his last interview before leaving the White House. On that show, he joked, "I cannot believe that people actually listen to you guys." Other guests have included White House photographer Pete Souza, Senator Kamala Harris, Silicon Valley's Kumail Nanjiani and Hamilton's Daveed Diggs.
The Crooked Media podcast portfolio also includes the shows "Crooked Conversations," "With Friends Like These," "Pod Save the People," "Pod Save the World," "Majority 54 with Jason Kander" and "Lovett or Leave It," the only Crooked Media podcast recorded in front of a live audience. Lucky for Jon Lovett fans, the PSA host will stick around after select shows to showcase his comedic, interactive take on politics in a separate performance at 10 PM. Please note that the Lovett or Leave It show requires a separate ticket from the Pod Tours America show.
