It’s the end of the [podcast] world as we know it, and that feels fine, because comedian Scott Aukerman and actor Adam Scott have launched their own audio show about the former rock band, R.E.M. The somewhat new podcast series is titled “R U Talkin’ R.E.M. RE: ME?” and its first of many musical episodes arrived on Wednesday, Pitchfork reports.
It should be noted that the new R.E.M.-themed format adds onto the two entertainers’ already established podcast, which up until yesterday had been titled, “U Talkin’ U2 To Me?” and often featured talking points based around U2. It now appears that Aukerman and Scott have found a new musical direction, like many artists do from time to time, and will now be focusing their efforts on bringing the fantastic catalogue of the Georgia rock band to the ears of many of their listeners. To get an idea of the show's fan-themed flow, the two can be heard discussing how Scott met U2 guitarist The Edge in a past episode in the clip above.
“Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation) and Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang! Bang!) come together as superfan Adam Scott Aukerman to discuss the music and impact of the band R.E.M.” it reads in the about section of their newly reformatted podcast series, which fans can find in the iTunes store. “Through an album by album analysis, listen to these friends break down everything and nothing about the band. This is good rock n’ roll, uh, music.”
The first episode of “R U Talkin’ R.E.M. Re: ME?” was fittingly titled and themed after the rock band’s 1982 debut Chronic Town EP. With 15 full-length studio albums, 6 EPs, a trio of live albums and 1 soundtrack to the R.E.M. discography, Scott and Aukerman will have plenty of material to introduce to their listeners as they continue their mission of turning the podcast world onto the former rock outfit, who broke up back in 2011.
