Iconic rock maestro's R.E.M. are releasing a reissue of their landmark album Automatic For The People to celebrate it's 25th anniversary this year. The remastered album is set to release on Nov. 10 through Craft Recordings, and will be available in a variety of formats, including a Deluxe Anniversary Edition, with the album featured in its entirety and mixed in Dolby Atmos. Check out the anniversary trailer featuring the band members in the video box above.
The album was remixed by it's original producer, Scott Litt and engineer Clif Norrell. In a recent press release explaining the technology of Dolby Atmos, "it delivers a leap forward from surround sound with expansive, flowing audio that immerses the listener far beyond what stereo can offer. It transports the listener inside the recording studio with multi-dimensional audio—evoking a time when listening to music was an active, transformative experience, and reigniting the emotion you felt when you first heard the album in 1992. R.E.M.’s Automatic For The People is the first album to be commercially released in this expressive, breathtaking format."
The result is a 4-disc deluxe edition featuring unreleased material, specifically with the band selecting twenty never-before-heard demos from the LP's sessions, with the full, unreleased track of "Mike's Pop Song," and "Devil Rides Backwards." "Mike's Pop Song" debuts today, and is available as an immediate track available for download with pre-order of the reissue. Stream the track here. Pre-order the 25th anniversary edition here. There will be a full-live set of R.E.M.'s performance of Live At The 40 Watt Club on 11/19/92, performed in the band's hometown of Athens, Ga. and their only live show that same year.
More goodies featured in the anniversary edition are a 60-page book, a 12" x 12" lift-top box, new liner notes, a companion Blu-ray, music videos, and much more. The album will be reissued on 180-gram vinyl with digital download card, and will also be available across all digital and streaming outlets.
