You know you’ve made it when you’re doing a backstage jam of your current single and Kelsea Ballerini, Karen Fairchild (Little Big Town), and Taylor Swift (yes, Taylor Swift) all join in to sing along (instagram). That’s right, Rachel Platten has had a phenomenal past few months even by rock star standards!
In her latest email to her fans, Rachel enthused, “Last weekend I got to hang out with the inspiring Miss Taylor Swift and jam with her backstage. She epitomizes the message of ‘Fight Song,’ so it was pretty amazing to watch her bang the coffee table like it owed her money and sing it at the top of her lungs.”
Getting to partake in an impromptu jam with Taylor Swift is just one of the many perks that come with having written a song so heartfelt and so powerful that it has become an actual movement. People around the country are adopting Rachel’s “Fight Song” as the anthem to their personal struggles, no matter what they might be. The fierce passion and determination to never give up, to keep the fight going has struck a resonant chord with the nation
And that chord is reverberating, putting Platten’s entire world in perfect tune. The once struggling artist who refused to quit, recently delivered a stirring rendition of her hit on VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live Hosted by Nick Lachey.”
And, speaking of VH1, Rachel was also recently selected to be their next “You Oughta Know” artist. On the site, you can find quotes, photos, videos, and exclusive interviews that all provide a deeper insight into who Rachel Platten is and why you should get to know her. The artist told her fans via email that in one clip, “I talk about the power of not giving up. No matter what. I truly hope my story can inspire you to never give up on your dreams. It's never too late, and you are not too ______ (fill in the cruel thing you tell yourself) [...] so please keep working hard. I promise that anything you imagine can happen!!!! Keep going.”
When’s the last time a car commercial gave you goosebumps? Well, the “All-new 2015 Ford Edge: Odds” commercial does. It accomplishes that feat simply by bringing in Platten’s unmistakable voice at just the right emotional moment.
And if that’s not enough “Fight Song” for you, wait until you watch the extended trailer for CBS’ “Supergirl.” It’s freaking amazing! A dash of Rachel Platten makes everything a little bit more heroic.
In an interview from March 17 on AXS, Rachel talked about the defining moment that changed her career. “He [Ben Singer of SMG Entertainment] told me to forget about trying to warm myself by other people’s fires and to go build my own. He told me I could do that by concentrating on my songwriting, which, ironically, was the one thing I hadn’t really delved into too much. Even though I had songs that were reaching people, I had never really learned how to tell my own story.”
Rachel’s “Fight Song” is her story. It’s also the story of everyone who refuses to give up. Her prophetic lyrics express that although she might only have one match, she can make an explosion. She did. And, it’s rocking the world.
Rachel’s Fight Song EP (Columbia Records) is currently available via iTunes. This summer she will be on tour with Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri. For more information, visit her website, like her on Facebook, and follow her on Tumblr, Instagram, and Twitter.
