While the official Red Rocks season gets started in April, things really begin to ramp up in May. They say April showers bring May flowers and the Red Rocks May schedule is, as usual, blooming with amazing bands and artists.
What is different this year is that Red Rocks will begin using Flash Seats to distribute tickets. Flash Seats are a convenient and green way to buy, sell and use tickets. You can learn more in the video above.
May gets underway with a great hip-hop bill in Post Malone, 21 Savage and SOB X RBE followed by another great bill of pop rock with X Ambassadors, Misterwives and Allan Rayman. Some stellar jam band music kicks off the first weekend in May with Twiddle getting things started on Friday. Saturday sees legendary Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh return to one of the Dead’s favorite places to play, this time with his Terrapin Family Band and Colorado’s own jamgrass pioneers Leftover Salmon.
After a much talked about sold-out show at Red Rocks last May, Primus returns to the iconic amphitheater with Mastodon and All Them Witches. While the Purple One himself never played Red Rocks, Prince’s music will ring out in the perfect natural acoustics when tribute band The Purple Xperience comes to the famed venue.
If it’s a dance party you’re looking for, the second weekend in May at Red Rocks will afford electronic fans a chance to get down. Friday will feature DJ duo Tchami x Malaa along with k?d, Justin Martin and Mercer. Saturday the Global Dub Festival comes to Red Rocks with performances by Ganja White/ Zomboy w/ Boogie T., SQUNTO, EPTIC, AFK and Spock.
Mid May boasts an eclectic run of one-nighters including indie rock trailblazers Modest Mouse, R&B singer Khalid, electronic trio Above & Beyond, Colorado folkies Elephant Revival, the electronic stylings of Phantogram and Tycho, indie rockers The Decemberists and DJ duo Louis the Child and Big Wild.
The last weekend in May gets started with Americana trio The Devil Makes Three along with The Wood Brothers and Murder by Death on Friday but switches to the other end of the spectrum with electro-jam groups Emancipator Ensemble and Disco Biscuits. The last week of May closes with another eclectic run including pop darlings HAIM, metal masters Five Finger Death Punch, singer-songwriter Vance Joy, and the Colorado Symphony performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
