Puerto Rican artist Residente will take up residence in the U.S. this August for an eight-city tour. After spending a decade in reggaeton group Calle 13, Residente (aka René Pérez Joglar) finally got the nerve to go it alone.
"I was starting to feel comfortable," he explained. "As an artist, that's the worst feeling." In an effort to branch out, he got to working on a solo project—and not just an album of songs. After learning about his heritage from a DNA test, Residente embarked on a round-the-world trip, where he worked with local collaborators to create music that reflected the regional culture and politics. The resulting products were an album, documentary film and interactive website.
Residente's debut solo album, which features the single “Somos Anormales (We’re Abnormal),” peaked at No. 1 on Billboard''s World Albums and Latin Album Sales charts. He will bring the ambitious project to U.S. audiences on a summer tour, kicking off Aug. 10 at Terminal 5. See the whole leg below and check out his Soko collab "Desencuentro" up top.
