On Wednesday, LA Galaxy midfielders Sebastian Lletget and Jermaine Jones were named to the 24-man roster of the U.S. National Team for the squad’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Honduras and Panama. The USMNT will take on Honduras on March 24 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, CA before traveling to Panama City for their contest on March 28.
In an interview with LAGalaxy.com, Lletget said he was “over the moon” after the call up.
"Coming into these games is going to be an amazing experience. It's a huge honor to represent this country at the highest level, and the two World Cup qualifiers are very important for us moving forward. We need to win these games," Lletget said. "I believe [they're must win games] especially the Honduras game because moving onto Panama is never going to be easy. We have to match the intensity ... With the players that we have, we can do it."
This will be Lletget’s first World Cup qualifier as part of the USMNT roster, following two appearances in the team’s friendly matches earlier this year. Jermaine Jones has made 68 appearances for the team since joining the squad in 2010. The U.S. National Team is coached by former Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, who was tapped for the position in November.
The match against Honduras will be broadcast on FS1 at 7:30p.m. PST. Click here to get tickets to upcoming Galaxy home games.
