Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes released his latest album on May 25 via Island Records and the self-titled set is giving the young artist his third No. 1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. The charts will update on June 5.
The self-titled effort begins its run on the charts having moved 182,000 overall units which combines sales, streams and track sales. Of that number, 142,000 were in actual sales giving Mendes his largest week of activity for both units and sales. His previous set, 2016's Illuminate, debuted at No. 1 with 145,000 units and 121,000 of that were in sales thanks to the popular CD/concert ticket bundling that also helped the new album reach No. 1. Only those who claimed the album count towards the Top 200.
Mendes released lead single "In My Blood" on March 22 to kick off the new album era. Until recently, it had been a sleeper hit while radio still played older songs and momentum built. The emotional song thus far has reached No. 10 on Mainstream Top 40 and No. 8 on Adult Top 40 where it is picking up more spins. On the almighty Hot 100, "Blood" has so far peaked at No. 20. Mendes performed the track at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards just five days before the release of the new album.
Leading up the album's release, Island Records also released the songs "Lost in Japan," "Youth" and "Where Were You in the Morning?"
