Sia’s bouncy and cheery holiday song “Santa’s Coming for Us” topped Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart for the week of Dec. 23. The track is the first holiday tune to top the AC chart this holiday season and marks Sia’s first track to top this chart. Per Billboard, it is also the 21st holiday No. 1 on the ranking since 2000.
The festive, retro-vibed video for “Santa’s Coming for Us” features husband and wife actors Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell hosting a holiday party with a celebrity guest list that includes Henry Winkler, J.B. Smoove, Susan Lucci and more. Bell is lip syncing Sia’s vocals, Shepard is trimming the tree and Smoove plays the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus. The upbeat track is the lead single from Sia’s holiday album, Everyday is Christmas, which dropped on Nov. 17. It contains 10 original holiday songs co-written by Sia and Greg Kurstin.
Sia previously peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart with “Cheap Thrills,” which also became her first Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.
Sia is one in a long stream of artists to top the Adult Contemporary chart with a holiday song. Josh Groban leads the pack having had four holiday songs top the chart with “O Holy Night” in 2002, “Believe” in 2004, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” in 2007 and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” in 2016. “American Idol” season two third place finalist Kimberley Locke ranks next, topping the chart with three holiday songs three years in a row with “Up on the Housetop” in 2005, “Jingle Bells” in 2006 and “Frosty the Snowman” in 2007. Many more artists have topped the AC chart with a holiday-themed track including Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, and more.
Everyday is Christmas is Sia’s eighth studio album and first Christmas collection. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard US Top Holiday Albums chart, No. 27 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 7 in her native Australian Albums (ARIA) chart. The star-studded video for “Santa’s Coming for Us” also features “Stranger Things” star Caleb McLaughlin along with child actors Wyatt Oleff and Sophia Lillis. It has garnered over 18 million views on YouTube since its Nov. 22 posting.
