One of the great things about reggae is that the lyrics frequently encourage the listener to take a voyage of self-discovery and growth. For Peace Band has created another such song with the new single "Chance to Grow."
You immediately notice something about this song that is different from other reggae songs. Namely, it begins with some strings in addition to the usual instrumentation. It's an interesting addition that works surprisingly well with the reggae sounds. The lyrics of this song are kind of like an open letter to those who are trying to find themselves. Some of the more memorable lines are "Remember the surface isn't everything" and "Don't ever leave your story untold." As Jacob Iosia sings these encouraging lyrics, the band plays a groovy and bright melody. If you're in a bad mood when you start to hear this song, with any luck, you're not in a bad mood by the time you reach the end.
"Chance to Grow" is one of the songs on the band's upcoming album Always Love, which will be available from Rootfire Collective on July 27. If you like mellow island vibes, it is probably an album you'll want to add to your collection.
