The Greatest Gift indeed--Sufjan Stevens has released a preview of his upcoming mixtape with the new song "Wallowa Lake Monster."

The song is the first release from The Greatest Gift, which will feature outtakes, remixes and demos from Stevens' most recent solo studio album, Carrie & Lowell, released in 2015. "Wallowa Lake Monster" is one of four previously unreleased songs included on the release, which were recorded as part of the Carrie & Lowell sessions. As such, the mixtape serves as a companion piece to both the album and the live recording earlier this year.

"This new material, in its investigation of love, life, death, God, and the beautiful state of Oregon, serves as a contemplative companion to the original album," the album's release page says. "We hope you enjoy."

Clocking in at nearly seven minutes long, the beautiful, haunting "Wallow Lake Monster" sounds like it would fit seamlessly on Carrie & Lowell, with similar instrumentation, Stevens' soft vocals, and personal lyrics dealing with his mother, the titular Carrie.

The Greatest Gift is out Nov. 24 on yellow cassette, translucent vinyl, and digital platforms, but is currently available for pre-order through Stevens' label, Asthmatic Kitty Records. A portion of the sales will benefit the Cancer Support Community.

In addition to the live Carrie & Lowell release, Stevens also worked with Bryce Dessner of The National, Nico Muhly, and James McAlister on space-themed album Planetarium, released in June.
