The original Beach Boys line-up consisted of members and brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, along with their cousin, Mike Love. It also included their close friend, Al Jardine, who now performs with Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, during his independent shows and live concert events. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and in 1998; they were also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The Beach Boys also received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Beach Boys are one of the most recognized vocal groups of all time for their exceptional songwriting abilities, vocal harmonies and timeless California sound. The group celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2011 and released the new album That's Why God Made the Radio in June 2012. The album was produced by Brian Wilson and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album charts. This was the first album that featured new material since the band's 1992 album release called Summer in Paradise.

The story of the Beach Boys has spawned two made-for-television films and one biopic. "Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys" came out in 1990 and "The Beach Boys: An American Family" was aired on television in 2000. The newest biopic project titled "Love & Mercy" was released in 2014. This film focuses on the life of Brian Wilson and is a dramatic look into his time with the Beach Boys. Actors Paul Dano and John Cusack portray Wilson as a young man and a middle-aged man during the film.
