The best New Jersey concerts for May 2017

The month of May is finally within our reach, and it only means the sweet smell of flowers and delicious BBQ are on the horizon. It also means that more bands will be headed on the road to deliver some great performances all over the Garden State. Two unlikely rock bands will join forces for a massive Tuesday night affair, a Grammy award winning married couple perform their most beloved hits inside Newark, and a week's worth of co-headlining tours is set to rock Starland Ballroom. Check out our list of great concerts hitting up New Jersey in the next few weeks.

Tuesday, May 2
Alter Bridge, In Flames @ Starland Ballroom

Hard rock outfit Alter Bridge continues touring in support of their latest album, The Last Hero, with a stop at Starland Ballroom. Joining them on the trek are Swedish metal outfit In Flames who are plugging their album Battles, and Devour The Day, who are supporting S.O.A.R.

Architect, Distorted Retrospect @ QXT's

Haujobb's Daniel Myer pulls double duty with performances as Architect and DSTR inside QXT's. Distorted Retrospect will be giving him a breather as they promote their Fragment 1 single.

Thursday, May 4
Tim McGraw, Faith Hill @ Prudential Center

Country superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill bring a plethora of platinum selling hits to Newark's Prudential Center on their Soul2Soul World Tour. Georgia pop/soul outfit The Shadowboxers will open.

Friday, May 5
Yngwie Malmsteen @ Starland Ballroom

Last June, iconic guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen released solo album number 20 with World on Fire. He returns to the Sayreville venue to perform hits such as "Far Beyond the Sun" and "I'll See the Light Tonight".

Super Snake @ Monty Hall

Featuring Trophy Scars' vocalist Jerry Jones and The Banner's bassist Pete August, New Jersey psych rock outfit Super Snake are looking to make a major impact with their new studio album Leap of Love, which was produced by Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Kevin Antreassian. Catch the outfit tear down Jersey City's Monty Hall with a riff laden performance.

Sunday, May 7
Opeth, Gojira @ Starland Ballroom

There are a handful of tickets left to catch metal titans Opeth and Gojira rock Starland Ballroom. Opening the show are the Devin Townsend Project, who are plugging their latest effort Transcendence.

Wednesday, May 10
Pierce The Veil, Sum 41 @ Starland Ballroom

Pierce The Veil and Sum 41's co-headlining gig in New Jersey is close to sold out, so be sure to grab tickets ASAP. PTV are promoting their latest studio album Misadventures, which debuted at number four on the Billboard Top 200. Sum 41 have been heavily promoting 13 Voices, which peaked at number seven on the Top Rock Albums chart. Emarosa and Chapel round out the lineup.

Bayside, Say Anything @ Starland Ballroom

Much like the previous two co-headlining treks heading to Starland Ballroom, tickets for Bayside/Say Anything are running low. Reggie and the Full Effect will kick things off.

The Pretty Reckless, Them Evils @ Starland Ballroom

While The Pretty Reckless didn't walk away with Rock Song Of The Year for "Take Me Down" at the recent iHeartRadio Music Awards, the NYC hard rock outfit have been doing just fine with the success of their latest album Who You Selling For. The outfit make their way to the Garden State in between several festival appearances. California rockers Them Evils will join them as support.

Life of Agony, Sworn Enemy @ Starland Ballroom

Life of Agony have been delivering memorable shows inside Starland for years, and this time, they're coming back with their new studio album A Place Where There's No More Pain, which is their first release of new material in 12 years.

Animals As Leaders, Veil of Maya @ Starland Ballroom

Progressive metal fans are set to fill up Starland to catch Animals As Leaders perform material from their latest studio album, The Madness of Many, which topped the Hard Rock Albums chart. Veil of Maya and Alluvial will also perform.
