Kelley Deal—guitarist for The Breeders—joins millions of artists, musicians, free-lancers and self-employed workers in taking a stand against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act as many in the “gig economy” could lose coverage if the act were to be repealed. Deal will also join Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell at The National Press Club in Washington D.C. on Monday, January 9 where Burwell is expected to give her farewell speech highlighting the importance of the ACA with personal stories and cautionary tales about the consequences of “undoing the progress that has been made.”
“Artists have a powerful voice,” Deal said. “Use it.” Burwell and Deal are encouraging people to share their stories on social media on how the health coverage is stronger under ACA using #CoverageMatters. You can also submit a question in advance to Secretary Burwell by clicking here and using “BURWELL” in the subject line. You can live stream the speech by following this link.
