The Drums dropped a new charity single called “Meet Me In Mexico” today. Track proceeds will reportedly go to benefit two organizations which are helping to rebuild areas in Mexico which were damaged by earthquakes, Reconstruir Mexico and Lago Tanganica 67. Antirecords also posted an audio version of the song on YouTube, which you can listen to below.
“Meet Me In Mexico” is a one-off single which features popping electronic drum beats and distorted synth pulses which sonically underscore the urgency in front man Jonny Pierce’s lyrical wish to escape and meet his love in Mexico. The cool new track follows the release of The Drums’ fourth studio album, Abysmal Thoughts, which dropped last June. Its lead single, “Blood Under My Belt,” was released last March.
The acclaimed indie pop rockers toured extensively last year to support the album. The Drums will perform with Alvvays and Faderdaze on April 16 at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, Calif. Tickets go on sale Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. (Click here for tickets) and an April 23 show at The Glass House in Pomona, Calif. Tickets go on sale March 2 (Click here for tickets). Stay tuned to AXS for updates on The Drums.
