The Voice season 13, episode 7 recap and performances

"The Voice" began its battle rounds on Monday, with the NBC singing competition taking a dozen of "The Voice" season 13 contestants and putting them head to head against each other for just six confirmed spots in the next round. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus began to whittle down their teams, while six artists looked desperately to the coaches for a second chance in the form of a steal. Who got lucky and who had their last performance? Here's what music fans will want to know from Monday's episode:

1) The steals

The much-talked about steals weren't a huge factor in the first battles episode. Of the six battles that aired on Monday, only one saw more than one coach interested in stealing the losing artist. That honor went to Whitney Fenimore, who chose Miley Cyrus as her new coach over Blake Shelton after being eliminated from Team Adam. You can watch Fenimore's battle round performance with Adam Pearce by playing the video above. Jennifer Hudson and Blake swapped artists, with Team Blake's Noah Mac going to Team Jennifer and Team Jennifer's Kathrina Feigh going to Team Blake.

2) The eliminations

Three artists did not receive any further interest from the coaches and were sent home in this episode. Team Jennifer's Meagan McNeil, Team Miley's Shilo Gold and Team Miley's Sophia Bollman were eliminated from "The Voice" season 13, meaning fans lost 25 percent of the artists who performed. Coincidentally, since Miley's team is made up of all female artists and her team had two battles on Monday, that also meant all of the artists who were knocked out were women.

3) The relative silence of Adam Levine

Monday was a quiet episode for Adam Levine. His team only had one battle, the showdown between Fenimore and Pearce that aired at the end of the episode, and he didn't push his button once during the other five opportunities. He's clearly saving up for a big move later in this round. If you're a Team Adam fan, you didn't have much to see this time around. The good news is that you can see Levine and his band Maroon 5 live at Las Vegas's Mandalay Bay Events Center this New Year's Eve; tickets are on sale now through AXS by clicking here.
