“The X Factor UK” season 14 returns to AXS TV this fall and lots of speculation is being made about which guest performing superstars will grace the stage this season. According to The Sun, former One Direction hottie Harry Styles might find his way back home to the series that launched his meteoric rise to fame.
A source told the UK magazine, ““Harry could very well be back on the X Factor stage this year. Simon has made it clear he is very keen to have him on in a guest slot. He sees him as a major ratings boost for the show and it’s also a chance for him to publicly show his support for Harry as a solo artist.”
Styles certainly could boost “X Factor UK” ratings for several reasons. For one thing, he is one-fifth of the biggest group to ever hail from the popular reality singing competition. By now the world knows One Direction’s fairy tale story. Styles and his former 1D band mates Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik auditioned as solo artists, but didn’t make the cut. Instead, Simon Cowell put them together as a group and they finished third in the final and went on to become the most successful act originating from the show.
Zayn eventually left the group and 1D fans were heartbroken when the remaining band members announced a “hiatus” in 2015. Since then, each of the boys have pursued solo careers and Styles made a huge splash with his chart-topping, self-titled art-rock debut solo album and its powerful, anthemic lead single “Sign of the Times.” His solo tour sold out in mere seconds, which prompted the “Carolina” singer to book stadium dates well into 2018.
“Meanwhile, Harry is incredibly loyal to his roots and knows the show is a great platform to showcase his material,” the source added. “Discussions are ongoing but things are looking positive.”
Styles has been busy promoting his feature film debut with his fellow “Dunkirk” cast members. He’s also made several critically-acclaimed TV appearances, including a week-long residency on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and a hilarious Mick Jagger impersonation on SNL, where he also made his debut solo TV performance of “Sign of the Times." He also performed the chart-topping track in his native UK on "The Graham Norton Show."
Simon Cowell remains committed to raising “The X Factor UK” ratings to compete with UK rival show “Strictly Come Dancing.” A firm season 14 premiere date and a formal guest appearance lineup has not yet been officially announced. The judging panel lineup is set, however, with Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh resuming their judging roles with Cowell. Dermot O’Leary will also return as season 14 presenter.
Landing Harry Styles as a guest star in the upcoming season would undoubtedly be a huge ratings coup for “The X Factor.” An official announcement has not yet been made but fingers crossed the early speculation/reports eventually get confirmed.
“The X Factor UK” will air in the U.S. this fall on AXS TV. Stay tuned to AXS for Harry Styles and “X Factor UK” updates.
