“The X Factor UK” makes its season 15 two-night premiere on Sept. 2 and 3 in the U.S. on AXS TV. As the search for the next music superstar continues, we’re looking back at prior winners. This installment focuses on season 14 winners, Rak-Su.
Rak-Su bolted out of the season 14 gate making a bold impression on all four “X Factor UK” judges at their original audition in which they performed their infectious original song, “I’m Feeling You.” Veteran “X Factor” judges Louis Walsh and Nicole “Scherzy” Scherzinger even chair-danced a bit in their seats and series creator and executive producer Simon Cowell loved them. They sailed through each subsequent round of the competition unleashing one original song after another, gaining viewers attention and adoration, all the way through to their unforgettable “X Factor” crowning moment.
Rak-Su’s signature sound boasts a genre-crossing blend of future R &B, hip-hop, grime, and spoken word. In the explosive season 14 finale, Rak-Su members Ashley Fongho, Jamaal Shurland, Myles Stephenson and Mustafa Rahimtulla performed an epic rendition of their Latin-flavored original song “Dimelo” with Naughty Boy and Wyclef Jean.
What have Rak-Su been up to since their 2017 “X Factor UK win?” In short, they’ve been busy.
“Dimelo” went on to enter the UK Singles Chart at No. 2, behind Ed Sheeran’s smash hit “Perfect.” Four of their songs performed on “The X Factor” topped iTunes charts while they were on the show, including “Dimelo,” “I’m Feeling You,” “Mamacita” and “Mona Lisa.” Studio versions of these songs are included on the group’s self-titled debut EP, which dropped earlier this year on Feb. 24.
Rak-Su toured arenas across the UK on “The X Factor UK” live tour and they supported season eight “X Factor UK” champs and BRIT Award-winning superstars Little Mix for multiple shows this summer on their Summer Hits Tour 2018. They’ve also written a new memoir called “Our Journey,” which is due out from Penguin Books on Oct. 4 and the Rak-Su men will be embarking on a UK book tour for book signings on select dates and locations this fall.
Rak-Su released a brand- new track and lyric video called “Pyro Ting” on June 28 as a collab with Montreal native electro-Caribbean duo Banx & Ranx. “Pyro Ting” is available to purchase and stream across multiple digital platforms (Watch the lyric video above). Even more exciting, on Aug. 31 the band announced they are making a new music and it is being filmed in Antigua. See their post below.
