The Greater Bridgeport Symphony (GBS) has announced they will host the annual Young Instrumentalists' Competition at the University of Bridgeport on March 25 and 26. A grant from the Hersher Family Foundation as made it possible this year to continue to share the passion of these young musicians.
The competition is being held at the Arnold Bernhard Arts & Humanities Center, University of Bridgeport, 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. More information for the competition can be found on the website.
The Young Instrumentalists' Competition is open to young Connecticut musicians between the ages of 11 and 19. Last year's winner, Julian Shively of Trumbull. performed a cello solo with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony in December of 2016. Maestro Jacobsen commented on this youth outreach program, he says, "This doesn’t happen enough in the world today, and GBS is thrilled to engage with Connecticut’s young minds.”
The competition finals are at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 26 and it will be open to the public, free of charge, at the Littlefield Recital Hall, Bernhardt Center for the Arts, located at 84 Iranistan Ave, Bridgeport, CT on the University of Bridgeport campus.
