Canadian superstar Shawn Mendes' latest single "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" holds No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a third straight week. It's the singer's third top 10 hit in the U.S. The guy behind all three of them is Teddy Geiger, another musician who's recently gone onto success as a songwriter and producer. For the one-time Teddy fans, know that he's still very much active in the music industry.

Geiger got his start in the industry in 2004 on VH1's "In Search of the Partridge Family" as a finalist for the role of Keith Partridge. Emma Stone was an eventual winner on the reality show. Though he did not get the role, Teddy and his 2005 EP Step Ladder got the attention of producer Billy Mann. Geiger was signed to Columbia Records and the two worked together on his debut album.

Geiger's shaggy hair, piercing blue eyes and raspy voice debuted on the music scene in January 2006 with the release of his first single "For You I Will (Confidence)." The then 17-year-old singer starred alongside Kristin Cavallari from MTV's "Laguna Beach" in the music video. At the time pop-rock was the genre du jour so Teddy's guitar-driven love song reached No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Geiger's Underage Thinking album arrived that March and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. He unleashed his teenage angst on the power piano ballad "These Walls," Teddy's follow-up single that unfortunately didn't match the success of "Confidence."

With his time in the spotlight, Geiger also got the opportunity to cover Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" for one of the Disneymania soundtracks. Instead of releasing a second album, Columbia tried to get Teddy more exposure as a star in the 2008 box office bomb "The Rocker," which reunited the singer with his one-time girlfriend Stone. After that failed collaboration, Geiger became a free agent and released his next music projects independently. One of the last times Teddy's voice reached the public was on Tiësto's 2013 club hit "Love & Run."

Later that year, Geiger's name started appearing in other act's album liner notes as a co-writer and producer. His big break in both fields came from working on One Direction's stellar standout "Little Black Dress" on 2013's Midnight Memories record. Teddy was invited back for 2014's Four where he co-wrote and produced the anthemic "Where Do Broken Hearts Go."

In 2015, Geiger hit his stride as a songwriter and producer with Shawn Mendes' worldwide hit "Stitches," which helped the Vine star transition into a bonafide pop star. Their work together led to Teddy getting more involved on 2016's Illuminate album, notably on Shawn's hit songs "Treat You Better" and "Mercy." The record was re-released in April to include their current smash single "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back."

Geiger started out in 2006 as a singer-songwriter voicing his generation on Underage Thinking and over a decade later, he's reached the youth again behind-the-scenes of teen titan Mendes' music career. While some acts pack it up after facing setbacks, Teddy's been keeping busy in the studio as a career musician making music for himself or other artists. There's truly nothing holding him back.
