Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will bring their 40th Anniversary Tour to Summerfest’s Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee, Wisc. Marcus Amphitheater will be rocking on July 5 and July 6, 2017, according to an announcement on Dec. 9, 2016. Summerfest is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be presenting a variety of music and entertainment on Milwaukee’s lakefront June 28-July 2 and July 4-9, 2016 (closed July 3).
Tom Petty announced the 40th anniversary tour on SiriusXM’s “Tom Petty Radio” on Dec. 9, and on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Dec. 8, 2016. Watch the humorous announcement from Tom Petty on “The Tonight Show” in the attached video.
The tour will begin on April 20, 2016 in Oklahoma City and will continue through the summer. The 40th anniversary of their self-titled album is being commemorated by the release of two limited-edition vinyl LP box sets. Tour details are on the Tom Petty website.
Joining Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be country music star Chris Stapleton, a relative newcomer on the scene who recently won CMA Awards for “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “Music Video of the Year.” His breakthrough album, Traveler, has won Grammy, CMA, and ACM awards.
Tickets for both shows will go on sale on Dec. 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. CST. Shows at Marcus Amphitheater need require a special ticket, but they do include Summerfest admission.
The concerts will be a big event at Summerfest, “The World’s Largest Music Festival,” which his celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017. Summerfest will take place June 28-July 2 and July 4-9 from noon to 9 p.m. The festival will be closed on July 3. The festival is famous for featuring music on 11 stages, totaling over 1,000 performances. Approximately 850,000 attend the multi-day festival on the Milwaukee lakefront. There will be additional news about headliners and other entertainment in coming months.
