Twenty One Pilots posted a pair of cryptic tweets on July 9 which have sparked rumors a new album might be on the way. The first post features a partially closed yellow eye with fragments of a black and white video which is playing but isn’t entirely visible. In the next post, the eye is open and features what appears to be a medieval scene of some sort with a cloaked rider on a white horse. Do these tweets tease a medieval or battle theme for the record? (See the posts below).
This mysterious set of tweets follow a fan base email blast for newsletter subscribers which ended Twenty One Pilots’ year-long silence on the July 6 anniversary of their hiatus. The message contained a similar partially closed yellow eye and the question, “Are you still sleeping?” The news quickly spread through The Skeleton Clique via social media posts and fans are stoked the communication could mean new music will arrive soon.
The Grammy-winning alt-rock duo made up of frontman Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun has not released a new album since their 2015 Billboard 200 chart-topper Blurryface. The album made history by becoming the first album to ever have every track be certified Gold by RIAA and it contained two Billboard Hot 100 singles “Stressed Out” and “Ride.” "Stressed Out" hit No. 2 on the chart and its music video has amassed more than 1.3 billion views on YouTube to date. The duo’s hiatus began following the conclusion of “The Emotional Road Show World Tour” which launched on May 31, 2016, in Cincinnati and played 123 shows across the world and ended on June 25, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio.
