First Justin Timberlake snapped everyone out of their New Year’s slumber by announcing his first album in five years. It has a folksy, mystical name: Man of the Woods. A trailer that accompanied the announcement hinted that the album would see Timberlake returning to his Tennessee roots. Hell, Chris Stapleton is going to be on the album.
Then the Man of the Woods drops a future funk dubstep-tinged track from Timbaland--called “Filthy”--with a video where he plays a Steve Jobs type character who watches from the wings like a proud father as a very human robot dances a lot like JT.
What the hell is going on? Is Man of the Woods going to be a sexy trip through musical history? A groundbreaking conglomeration of country, blues and electronic music to make some kind of satirical futuristic past pop? We can’t wait to find out when the album comes out on Feb. 2.
In the meantime, one more piece of the puzzle fell into place when JT revealed the tracklist. While the handwritten tracklist revealed what songs Alicia Keys and Chris Stapleton will guest on (see below), it was the song titles that had Twitter abuzz. Below are some of the best Twitter reactions to the Man of the Woods tracklist.
Justin Timberlake returns to the Super Bow Half Time Show, this time as the headliner, on Feb. 4.
