Twitter has begun streaming more than a dozen eSports tournaments

Twitter has ventured into the eSports business. Mashable reports that the social media platform has partnered with eSports organizations ESL One and DreamHack to stream more than a dozen various eSports tournaments this year, starting with this weekend's Intel Extreme Masters XI World Championships in Katowice, Poland.

The partnership is in addition to, not in place of, the existing distribution deals that ESL One and DreamHack have with other digital partners. Their competitions will still be available to watch on Twitch and archived on YouTube. Working with Twitter simply puts eSports content in the same live social media stream that the company has used for the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League.

As Mashable notes, it also builds upon the live streaming deal that Twitter struck with Turner Sports and IMG to broadcast portions of TBS's ELEAGUE during its first season of the "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" competition last summer.

Valve's Counter-Strike is just one of several games that will be available on Twitter under the new deal. ESL One and DreamHack also host tournaments for "League of Legends," "StarCraft II" and "Heroes of the Storm" among others. Fans need only to visit dedicated live stream pages for ESL and DreamHack respectively, and it's not known but certainly possible that the streams could be advertised on Twitter users' main timelines similar to past live sports and events streams.

Below is the list of eSports tournaments that are scheduled to be live streamed on Twitter:
