Rapper Tyler, the Creator is heavily involved in the upcoming animated remake of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 9. So what was Tyler’s role in the new film? Helping to create some new music of course, and one simply cannot make a film about the Grinch without including an updated version of Thurl Ravenscroft’s famous “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Thankfully, the film’s producers have brought Tyler on to help produce and record a new version of the holiday classic, which can be partially heard in the film’s new trailer seen above.

Tyler lends his more tenor-friendly singing style to the old song, which includes new lines such as “Who’s this mean fella with his skin all green and his teeth all yellow?” Both Tyler and the film’s score composer Danny Elfman worked on re-writing the song for a more fitting 2018 production standard, which has a nice subtle beat accompanied by a children's choir as heard on throughout the clip.

The film’s producers haven’t elaborated on much in terms of Tyler’s other music to be featured in the film. In a post shared to the film’s official Instagram page on Tuesday, the caption reads that there will be “new songs by Tyler, the Creator.”  Fans can expect more than one new holiday track from the Flower Boy rapper when the film and its presumable soundtrack arrives just in time for the gift-giving season. Hear that Santa? One of the new songs, according to Deadline, will be titled “I Am The Grinch.”

Deadline also reported this week that the film’s producers also recruited fellow hip-hop singer Pharrell Williams to narrate the holiday classic, who will star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch who voices the Grinch. Williams was a big part of the music team for Illumination Entertainment’s animated blockbusters including the “Despicable Me” series, which of course led to the overly played hit, “Happy.”
