The 24-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace fights Kaline "The Dark Angel" Medeiros (8-5) on Dec. 8 at Kansas City's Scottish Rite Temple, as part of the main card of Invicta FC 26. Invicta FC made the fight official with an announcement on their website.
With the Arizona native jumping ship to Invicta Fighting Championships, she's clearly one step closer to a call-up to the UFC. Since Invicta FC airs on UFC Fight Pass and company officials have a strong relationship with the UFC's matchmaking team, dozens of the promotion's past competitors have gone on to compete inside the world-famous Octagon.
Dern, who went undefeated in her four pro MMA appearances thus far, is looking to become the next to earn a UFC opportunity off an Invicta bout. With Medeiros being a former Invicta FC title challenger and Bellator competitor, she's going to be a solid test for Dern. A win over "The Dark Angel" could be enough to prove that Dern is ready for the big show.
It'll be interesting to see how the youngster handles such a drastic jump up in competition. To date, Dern has only gone against fighters outside the top 20 in the world. It's also going to be interesting to see if Dern is able to make weight, as the fight has been announced as a strawweight contest.
Her last fight was at flyweight, and she had trouble getting down below 120 pounds in previous appearances. Invicta FC 26, headlined by a world title fight pitting Jennifer Maia against Aga Niedzwiedz, airs live on UFC Fight Pass.
