Orlando Salido (44-13-4, 31 KOs) battles Miguel "Mickey" Roman (57-12, 44 KOs) on Dec. 9 at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Events Center.
The historic 10-round collision, which airs live on HBO as part of a special edition "Boxing After Dark" triple-header, should be an action-packed, fast-paced war between two of the top boxers from Mexico. Fight fans can scoop up tickets to the show right here on AXS.
What can fans expect to see on fight night? Salido, a four-time champion in two weight classes, is looking to prove he still has some gas left in the tank at the age of 37. Originally, he was scheduled to take on Miguel Berchelt for WBC gold. Unfortunately, that plan fell through after a hand injury forced Berchelt out of action. The 32-year-old Roman stepped in as a short-notice replacement, effectively saving the show.
Is the fight still a high-stakes affair? Absolutely. Both men want to put on a show for the fans, and prove that Mexico is still a top destination for elite-level boxing. This scrap should be a dandy because both men have a wealth of experience inside the ring. Salido and Roman both have resumes filled with highlight-reel finishes.
Salido has appeared in over three dozen bouts and is in the twilight of his career, but he has still one-punch knockout power. As for Roman, he has heavy hands, excellent footwork and superb head movement. He has lost only once in his past 20 starts. This is a main event-worthy fight. Both men are going to be looking for the knockout and aiming to put on a great show for the fans.
Elsewhere on the card, Francisco Vargas goes toe-to-toe with British sensation Stephen Smith. Additionally, Tevin Farmer (25-4-1, 5 KOs) collides with Japanese sensation Kenichi Ogawa (22-1, 17 KOs) in junior lightweight action.
