Legendary soulful rocker Van Morrison and country guitar icon Willie Nelson will bring their talents to New York City this summer. Two of the most enduring artists over the last half century will deliver a pair of co-headlining performances at Forest Hills Stadium in the outer borough of Queens on Sept. 12, the venue announced on Monday morning.
The upcoming performance will be Morrison’s third appearance at Forest Hills Stadium, having last played the venue back in 2015. The 72-year-old singer is touring the globe this year in celebration of his 1968 Astral Weeks album turning 50, in addition to the arrival of his upcoming You’re Driving Me Crazy LP later this month. Morrison is also scheduled to perform at London’s Hyde Park along with Michael Buble on July 13 as part of the British city’s BST Concert Series.
The announcement of the upcoming concert comes just weeks after Willie Nelson wrapped up another run of his Luck Reunion parties which take place down in Austin throughout SXSW. Nelson’s 72nd studio album, God’s Problem Child was released in late April of last year, and even managed to crack the top 10 on Billboard’s 200 Album Sales Chart. He’ll plan on releasing the follow up album to Problem Child with Last Man Standing on April 27, the same arrival date as Mr. Morrison’s.
Monday’s announcement adds onto what is looking to be a pretty strong seasonal lineup for the legendary tennis stadium this summer. Belle & Sebastian, Nathaniel Rateliff, Robert Plant, Sheryl Crow and David Byrne are just a few of the previously revealed names who are set to perform at Forest Hills in 2018, in addition to the highly anticipated NYC return of Arctic Monkeys and Jamiroquai.
Tickets for the newly announced Van Morrison/Willie Nelson concert on Sept. 12 will be going on sale to the public starting this Friday, April 6, and can be purchased by clicking here.
