Pianist Andrew Armstrong, a New Canaan native will join Maestro Eric Jacobsen as he leads The Greater Bridgeport Symphony. Joining them on this musical travel through time are the Fairfield County Children's Choir and University of Bridgeport's University Singers creating exhilarating music for the next installment of “Revolutions and Revelations” with “Vive la France!.” Presenting music of and after the French Revolution, on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 8:00 pm at The Klein Memorial Auditorium located at 910 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, CT.
Andrew Armstrong, a New Canaan native will be returning to the GBS for this amazing collection of music, will headline with a rendition of the Emperor Concerto (Piano Concerto No. 5). A heroic composition that Beethoven wrote to honor Napoleon, but later denied that he dedicated the piece to him. It's all part of disorder and confusion of the history of French politics and the politics across Europe in the early 1800's.
The French national anthem, La Marseillaise will open the program. Throughout the night you will be whisked back to the 1800's through the music of two French composers, their work represents the growth of the arts through the time period. Gabriel Fauré’s Reguien will be performed by the Fairfield County Children's Choir and the University of Bridgeport's University Singers as they join another local musician from Fairfield Connecticut, baritone Thomas Woodman. The concert concludes with Georges Bizet’s most famous work Carmen.
