As the final expansion franchise to announce its team, the Washington Justice revealed their eight-player lineup ahead of the 2019 Overwatch League season.
The team’s DPS line will consist of Corey “Corey” Nigra, Ethan “Stratus” Yankel, and Chon “Ado” Gi-hyeon. Both Corey and Stratus played together on the Overwatch Contenders team NRG, while Ado competed in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. The Korean player competed with the Shanghai Dragons, which failed to secure a single win over the course of the season.
Song “Janus” Joon-hwa will serve as the team’s designated tank player but will be joined by the team’s flex player Kim “SanSam” Hyang-ki. SanSam has the potential to play a variety of characters as a flex player but is most known for his tank picks such as D.Va and Zarya. Janus joins the team after playing for the New York Excelsior in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League, where the team ended the overall season in first but secured a shared third place with the Los Angeles Valiant in the season’s playoffs.
Like many of their competitors in the league, the Justice will boast a trio of players for its support line, including Mun “Gido” Gi-Do, Cho “Hyeonu” Hyeon-woo, and Riley “Fahzix” Taylor. Gido previously played for the Seoul Dynasty, which secured eighth in the league’s inaugural season, while the other two support players will enter into the Overwatch League for their first year after playing in the Overwatch Contenders.
The Washington, D.C. franchise first announced Kate Mitchell as its assistant general manager alongside the team’s coaching staff. The Justice made history when it hired the first female coach in the Overwatch League with their signing of Molly “AVALLA” Kim.
The team now turns their eyes towards Season 2 of the Overwatch League, where they will show off their new roster when the games begin on Feb. 14.
