Alice Cooper has treated fans to an early present for the holiday season. The pioneering shock-rocker has released an official video for his upcoming single “The Sound of A” from his chart-topping studio album Paranormal, which dropped on July 28 via Earmusic.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer premiered “The Sound of A” via Loudwire on Dec. 13 and made the video available for streaming on Thursday via YouTube. The track is particularly near and dear to Cooper as it the very first song the “School's Out” hitmaker every wrote by himself back in 1967.
“The Sound of A” sat gathering cobwebs until original Alice Cooper bass player Dennis Dunaway rediscovered it. Dunaway and Cooper re-worked the song and recorded it as the closing track on Paranormal.
The 4:20 minute video is shot in black & white and features head shots of Cooper and an a entourage of actors in signature Cooper make up, performing the trippy 60s-era rocker. The video moves from face to face, moving in quick edits to the head, mouth and eye of each actor as rock's favorite boogieman sings, “The sound of A is in the air/The sound of A is everywhere.”
“The Sound of A” will receive physical release on Feb. 23. The single will be available on CD and 10” white vinyl and will include four previously unreleased live tracks, which were recorded on May 6, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Fans can check out the video above.
Cooper recently scooped the Best International Artist award at the 19th annual SSE Scottish Music Award held in Glasgow, Scotland, and wrapped up his touring year on Dec. 9 in his hometown of Phoenix at the Celebrity Theatre as part of the 16th annual Annual Christmas Pudding benefit concert. The hardworking rocker will hit the road once again in 2018 with “A Paranormal Evening With Alice Cooper,” which will launch March 1 in Windsor, Ont., at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace and will wrap up March 29 in Indianapolis at Murat Theatre.
