Rihanna’s annual Diamond Ball charity fundraiser took place in New York City last night. The event, which is produced by her Clara Lionel Foundation, welcomed fellow pop singers including Beyoncé, JAY-Z and Cardi B to name a few, to help raise money for her non-profit which assists impoverished communities around the world with healthcare and education.
It wasn’t just famous recording artists in attendance at Thursday’s event who had everyone buzzing. Former President Barack Obama also made an indirect appearance at the event via a pre-recorded video to congratulate Rihanna on the success of her charitable efforts.
“Thank you Rihanna for your active philanthropy,” the former President can be heard saying in the fan-shot video below. “And thanks to all of you for your support.”
Music fans will remember that Obama also took the time last month to send out a different pre-recorded message thanking Chance The Rapper for all of his work in empowering education and building opportunities for children across the city of Chicago.
Comedian Dave Chappelle, rapper Kendrick Lamar and actor Leonardo DiCaprio were just a few of the other big names in attendance at last night’s event, which reportedly raised over $840,000. While Mr. DiCaprio may have been there to show is support and rub elbows, both Chappelle and Lamar were in attendance taking on the role of the night's entertainers.
“I’m proud of the Clara Lionel Foundation’s significant impact in the world over the years and deeply grateful for the continued support and commitment to advancing our mission,” Rihanna said about her event back in June.
