Country artist Cody Johnson headed to NBC's "Today" on Jan. 16 to perform his newest single, "On My Way to You," taken from his forthcoming album Ain't Nothin' to It. The album will be released on Jan. 18.
"Way" has already become a hit in its own right for the independent artist as it's already moved 240,000 equivalent units and 25 million streams across official platforms. The song is his first major label single after his own independent label CoJo Music partnered with Warner Music Nashville—a co-release partnership.
Johnson amassed fans with honest songwriting and a sincere approach foregoing modern marketing ploys to appeal to the mainstream. The single uses a fiddle and steel guitar while he croons his way through the tune.
During the interview portion on "Today," Johnson made comparisons of the song's lyrics and his own life at home with his wife and family. He also compares it to his professional career being a successful independent artist having released six previous albums. His 2016 effort Gotta Be Me debuted at No. 2 on the Country Albums chart while also reaching No. 11 on the almighty Top 200 Albums chart.
