Imagine Dragons may have just topped themselves with the video for their latest single, "Believer." The new video released Tuesday features action film legend Dolph Lundgren, who's a pretty cool guy to have star in your music video. You can watch the video now by using the media player included with this article.
Lundgren gives a nod to his Ivan Drago character in the "Rocky" film franchise by engaging in a fierce boxing match with Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds, intercut with shots of the other band members performing the song. Who wins the fight? Well, you'll have to watch the video to find out. But if a music video calls for a tough opponent it's hard to think of anyone more appropriate than Dolph Lundgren.
"Believer" first made its debut as the featured track in Nintendo's Super Bowl LI commercial for the Nintendo Switch. The ad got more than 1.3 million views on YouTube alone plus millions more on broadcast television. That propelled the song to number two on Billboard's Hot Rock Tracks Chart and number four on the magazine's Alternative Songs Chart, though it's still lurking just inside the Top 50 on the overall Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. "Believer" is the lead single from Imagine Dragons' next studio album though the album doesn't have a release date or even a title.
Expectations will be high whenever the record arrives as their sophomore release Smoke + Mirrors debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold almost 200,000 copies in its first week. But if the band are coming up with songs like "Believer" and ideas like having Dolph Lundgren in their music videos, Imagine Dragons' third release should be vastly entertaining.
Fans who are waiting for the album can see the band live in April for a good cause. Imagine Dragons will be part of "Welcome: A Fundraising Concert for the ACLU" on Monday, April 3 at 7 p.m. from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Other participating acts include Bebe Rexha, Halsey, Skrillex, Camila Cabello, and Zedd. Tickets range from $49.50 to $249.50. Click here for tickets.
"Believer" is now available on iTunes.
