Jasin Isbell is one of the faces of the new generation of music, and recently, he showcased just how much this time-honored tradition of sound has evolved.
Performing on the show “Live From Here,” a music-variety show hosted by Chris Thile, Isbell gave a somber and emotional rendition of “If We Were Vampires.” The single, released in 2017 as part of The Nashville Sound album, won him a Grammy Award; but it was this performance on “Live From Here” that gives “If We Were Vampires” a softer, more emotional tone.
The single was inspired by his wife, Amanda Shires, who, herself, is a musician, and was featured on the original cut of the album. While ChrisShires wasn’t here for this performance, Isbell did enlist Chris “Critter’ Eldridge and Thile to him in bringing the song home. Eldridge was on the guitar, and Thile was on the mandolin, the latter of which, gave the live performance of “If We Were Vampires” that extra hit of tenderness.
“It’s a big deal to play these songs with these two gentlemen,” Isbell said, in which he also went to explain that he spends a lot of his time at home with his family in between producing hit records.
