Pop star Katy Perry will be front and center as host of the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27. The colorful ceremony will be broadcast live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on MTV. Perry has had many memorable moments on the VMA stage, which can be seen by watching the attached video from MTV.
Perry has won a total of five Moonmen, including, two for “E.T.” in 2011, one for “Firework” in 2011, one for “Wide Awake” in 2012, and one for “Dark Horse” in 2014.
The “Roar” singer has five nominations for the 2017 awards, including: Best Collaboration with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, and Big Sean for “Feels;” Best Pop, Best Visual Effects and Best Direction for “Chained to the Rhythm” ft. Skip Marley; and Best Art Direction for “Bon Appetit” ft. Migos.
Perry first hit the red carpet with Miley Cyrus in 2008, when both stars were nominated for Best New Artist. Neither of them won that year. Tokio Hotel won the Moonman over Taylor Swift, Jordin Sparks, Cyrus and Perry. This year, Perry and Cyrus are both nominated for Best Pop. Miley’s younger sister Noah Cyrus is nominated for the Best New Artist honor.
Perry first performed at the show in 2008. She performed “We Will Rock You” with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry in 2009. She closed the 2013 VMAs with a performance of “Roar” in front of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Among the memorable moments were the outfits she wore to the event, like in 2014 when she wore double denim along with Riff Raff, in homage to the outfits that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s 2001 AMA coordination.
The video shows the time Perry kissed every member of One Direction on stage and hit Harry Styles in the face with a Moonman flag after presented the award for Best Pop Video.
Perry will perform a medley of songs from her Witness album, which will be featured in her upcoming world tour. The Witness tour will begin in September and has scheduled dates through the beginning of February. Her openers for the tour will include Noah Cyrus, Carly Rae Jepsen and Purity Ring.
