To borrow an expression from esteemed hockey analyst Barry Melrose, cool is the Ruehle.
Dieter Ruehle, organist for the LA Kings has one of the most incredible jobs in sports. From his bird's eye perch high in the STAPLES Center, Ruehle soundtracks all of the action on the ice, where he can prompt a roar with a few claps on his drum pad or raise a smile with an organ version of a pop classic.
He also gets to flip on the air horn after every goal, so he gets to play what is perhaps the greatest "instrument" in all of sports.
"It's fun," Ruehle says with characteristic modesty.
AXS.com recently got a chance to hang out with Ruehle during an LA Kings game and the Stravinsky of slap shots gave us an up-close look at his workspace and history in sports. Watch in the video embedded above and follow this link for LA Kings tickets.
