Liam Gallagher fans pumped for the iconic British rocker's upcoming first-ever solo tour of North America can whet their appetites with a new video for his current single “Chinatown.” The track is from the ex-Oasis star's upcoming debut studio album As You Were, which is due out Oct. 6 via Warner/Parlophone.
The multi-platinum seller debuted the clip on his official YouTube channel on Wednesday (July 5) after releasing the single on Friday (June 30). “Chinatown” is the second release from As You Were, following the lead single “Wall of Glass,” which dropped June 1.
The video was produced by Lightening Films and directed by Charlie Lightening (Kasabian, Jamiroquai). Lightening previously worked with Gallagher's former band Beady Eye on two singles from 2013's Be - “Shine a Light” and “Soul Love.”
The 3:18-minute video opens with shots of London's Thames River at sunset as an acoustic guitar fingerpicks the song's main melody over a bass drum. The camera then follows Gallagher as he walks the streets of London, singing, “Well the cops are taking over/While everyone's in yoga/Cause happiness is still a warm gun.”
Produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) and Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Lana Del Rey), As You Were features 12 tracks on the standard edition and 15 tracks on the deluxe edition (pre-order it here).
Gallagher will keep busy this summer performing at festivals in Japan, North America and Europe. His next live appearance is on July 6 in Novi Sad, Serbia, as part of Exit Festival. He will launch his first-ever solo tour of North America on Nov. 13 in San Francisco at The Warfield. The nine-city late fall romp will wrap up Nov. 30 in Philadelphia at Union Transfer.
